Business modeling provides the opportunity to create
enterprise applications that reflects the accurate vision of how the business should function. Through the development of a business model,
the essence of an organization’s business is captured in a standardized format
(using the Unified Modeling Language) that
is not dependent on the application that executes its processes.
Business processes are then accessible to people that don’t need to
understand application development to participate in the development of
a new enterprise application system.
The purposes of business modeling are to:
Precisely document the external and internal business
processes.
Optimize these processes to yield quantifiable business
value.
Describe the essence of the organization's business in a
way that can be validated before the requirements and design of new
enterprise applications begin.
The business modeling artifacts consist of:
Business Use Case Model (External Business Model)
- A set of diagrams and text documents describing interactions between
the customer and the business that results in the delivery of products
and services.
Business Object Model (Internal Business Model) -
A set of diagrams and text documents describing interactions between the
staff and the business items that results in the delivery of a product
or service.
Business Glossary – Defines the important
business terms used in the business modeling workflow of the project.
